By way of a change on this site, one of the Luftwaffe losses is illustrated. There is no clear photo of this a/c but Nick King’s profile depicts the Me262 as it would have looked at the time of its demise. Shot down by Capt. Carl W Mueller, 350th Fighter Squadron, at Rheine airfield on 6 October 1944, this Me262A-2a Werke No. 170117 and coded 9K +XL of 3.staffel /KG(J) 51. was piloted by Fw. Joachim Fingerloos who bailed out wounded. Capt. Mueller in turn suffered mechanical trouble on 24 October 1944 and bellied in south-east of Munich in Lt. Rafferty’s 44-14770 LH-M “Fern Marie III” to become a PoW. (Me262 detail via Me262 Combat Diary)
